FEED THE HUNGRY

A couple of weeks ago I read an article in the paper about people who worked all year making bowls for a project called Feed The Hungry It showed a person bending over the wheel making a bowl.
Carrie called later on and mentioned it and we thought it might be an interesting event
to take in.
Sooooo, Friday I went to Dobson and caught the light rail and met Carrie down at the train stop and we walked aways north to this place called "The Grotto"

Nestled down between many tall buildings and terraced nicely.

There we found the event going on. Already there were alot of people mulling around I would say about ten or twelve tables

covered with all these bowls made during the year. Some were quite pretty, others plain, some interesting. Boxes and Boxes more on hand to give out.

I must have been hungry..( I just liked them) I got three. We did eventually use them all.

The deal is you pay $12 for each bowl and then they give you a serving of ....it happened to be pasta with chicken or pasta with shrimp. some years I guess it has been soup,,,etc. Anyway your serving is about 500 calories, what they figure a homeless person gets per day.

Scott met us down there on his lunch hour and we visited a while, he returned to work, then Doug picked us up, took me to my car on Dobson and I was off to home.
All in all an interesting day.

CHI, CHI,CHI......LE,LE,LE

Better get the kleenix ready.........

I have had the TV on the miners in Chili arriving at the top again....What a miracle
It has brought tears to my eyes. Thinking of all these men have had to go through

Yes, I tell you it just really got to my old hard core and the tears have come freely as each one arrives safely to the top.
Between each rescue they have told of all the problems faced with this So many things could have gone wrong.....

Billie wants to know what the h___ is going on with me. Blowing the nose and crying. Toughen up!
I had to go Visiting Teaching, I was just about to call it off.....but that wouldn't be right would it????

So....yep I grabbed that remote and recorded the whole thing..........

It really got to me. We visit a sister Sandoval and she called my attention to the fact that they are wearing a tee shirt that says'''gracious senor' thank you God....... Yep it made me cry again....

Thank goodness for kleenix and for the safe recovery of most all of them I hope it continues on.
Too bad for the guy that had a wife and a mistress waiting for him!!!!!????
?????
How,s that last guy going to get out by himself???

Did I say Read,,,,,read,,,,read...

Well as the long hot summer went on I read and read........."Setting Sail....Murder by the Book.....Dead on Arrival.....

Earlier in the year I read this book. The pilot "sully" who landed the plane on the Hudson and all passengers survived. Great story.....

Billie silently???? waited for me.

Others I read.
Between the Lines....A time to Die...House of Secrets.....Dead on Arrival
Dangerous connections....Methods of Madness......enough already

Can we play yet????

Are you still reading.???

Anyway, needless to say I did read alot this summer in fact during the year.....I also read the bio of Ted Kennedy. This man was remarkable and did alot of good in his life. And if any of you remember the funeral it was compared to that of JFK. People lined the streets and waved. He was a respected figure in Washington DC and had finally found his "soul mate". They loved to sail. He was a Democrat and his life was one of service and giving. It told that for years he would leave congress about noon on one day of the week and go to the inner city and help children with reading and other school activities.
Yawn.......................................................
Next book???????The Life of President Thomas S. Monson......Now in your bookstores...!!

Read......read.....read.

I just love a good book on a rainy day,,,,,,snuggle down in my P J's and a warm cover .NOT......Here in AZ not many rainy days and not cool enough to snuggle down in P J's and warm quilt.......... Well, we did have a bit of rain this a m

But I love to read. I go in spurts........................this summer was one of those spurts.

It was a long, hot summer. I like history, biography's, light mystery. Gerald Lund is one of my favorites. Earlier this year I read The Undaunted....the story of the people that came down here through the "hole in the rock" What those saints did was miraculous.

Later on I read "Driven". The bio of Larry Miller. Late owner of the Jazz and a businessman there in Salt Lake. I read 1776....great book....I would call it a short version of "Prelude to Glory"

YAWN......................any way here are some ther books I read.

These books are by Nancy Grace as you can see.
She is an x prosecutor from Alabama. Her fiance was killed just before their wedding years ago and she has remarried about 2 years ago and had a set of twins. She is the host of a show on court TV and she goes after all the murders and cases that are current. She is ruthless.! she's a character......

These are all easy reads.........................to be continued!!

Sand Storm

Anyone who has been around here for any length of time at all knows a sand storm can be real bad.
We had one come in the other night about 5 pm. Most always come from the south and usually during the monsoon.

It just keeps moving along and the sky begins to darken. I know you are really enjoying this.!!?? But it is quite a sight.

If you are driving, you better get off the road if you can. You really don't want to be out in it.

The sky eventually just turns a dark red....it is really hard to describe. It darkens and finally blows over. Sometimes the guys in the sky see them and it is interesting to see it from the helicopter view.
